High quality reel-to-reel machines can sound fantastic. But, a lot of the tapes used on them were recorded at home, usually off the tuner or turntable, so the quality can suffer a little. If you can find factory-made pre-recorded tapes, the quality can be excellent. But remember, most of these tapes are decades old and may have started to shed their oxide coating and otherwise deteriorate. Tapes do NOT last forever. P.S. Try and find a ReVox A-77. Fantastic unit.

Well my neibor owns that same reel and uses it with a shakesphere uglystick ultra-light version. It is about 5.5 feet. This pole runs with a reel so without the reel it should be very cheap.

He said its a spin cast reel Unknown, You do have to take the face off of a spin cast to change or add new line. And for the question I don't know what type of reel you have or which piece you are having trouble with so I don't know what to tell you. It should be only one piece thats troubling you right? Because you need to put it back in the order it came off so you should not be adding parts out of order right? The only part I have ever seen give anybody problems would be the spool but there is no reason to have taken the spool off. You only have to remove the cap or cone on a spincast to add line. Can you be more specific so I can try and help you better?

Normal spinning reels: Okuma Coronado CD-90. As the name says, it's a size 90 reel and it will hold a lot of line. Daiwa DF100A Giant. It's a size 100 reel but the spool is smaller than Okuma's. Special spinning reels: Fin-Nor Offshore OFS-95. This reel was designed especially for braid lines. It will hold 600 yards of 100lb test braid line. Van Staal VS300. It's not the biggest reel but it was especially designed to do what other spinning reels couldn't do and it could handle fish other spinning reels couldn't handle (at the time it was introduced at least). It was built with steel and titanium. I wouldn't be surprised if the reel is bullet proof. You'll probably need a custom rod built for these specialty spinning reels. I don't think you'll be able to find a spinning rod that could handle very heavy lines. Daiwa Beefstick got a spinning model that could handle up to 40lb test line. But it is a very heavy in weight. Fin-Nor built a spinning rod that could handle 50lb test lines and it will cost over 0. By the way, I think a conventional reel will work better. Reels selection will be better. Suitable rods that could handle heavier lines are much easier to find too.

There are a couple of things that can cause the bend you are describing. One could be just the storage of the rod leaning against the wall, but with the amount of use it gets I don't think this is the problem. You can try hanging the rod from the tip and see if it will help. I do recommend storing all rods in the vertical position to prevent them from taking a permanent set. Older rods, especially fiberglass and even early graphite rods will get softer with age due to the individual fibers breaking down and the resin that binds them together deteriorating. Can't avoid this, and the use it gets speeds up the process. Look at the rod carefully in the area of the bend a see if there is a spiral line running up the rod. This would show a de-lamination. The layers of fabric that make up the rod blank are separating. Also look for a discoloration or light colored area in that area, almost like a bruise. This shows an area where the fibers are breaking down. Either situation will cause a permanent bend and will cause a total failure at some point. Damaged rod blanks can't and should not be repaired. I know there are some shops that will do it but they are not doing you any favors. If you brought the rod to me for repair I would check for this first, even before replacing the guides, which is no problem. If the rod has any sentimental value I would recommend an early retirement and a nice spot on the wall.

Be sure to let the line loose from your finger in your forward motion.

Probably one of the hardest and most frustrating types of reels for any fisherman to throw is a baitcaster. These reels also have a push button type of release but you have to keep your finger planted firmly on the spool when you press the release button and during your throwing motion again only releasing your finger when the rod is at the front-end of your cast. The reason they are the hardest and most frustrating to cast is because they have a tendency to backlash if not thrown properly. Backlash is simply when the line gets tangled all in the spool and becomes very hard to untangle. This is a fisherman's nightmare especially if you have been catching fish. That being said, they are probably also the most loved fishing reels of avid fisherman as when you do practice with it and get to where you are not backlashing the distance and smoothness you get from a cast is incomparable. Add in the fact that these reels can typically handle any duress that a fish can throw at it and you have a winning combination.
