Bass fishing equipment should be prepared much like a surgeon prepares for important brain surgery. Everything needs to be in the right place and working at maximum efficiency. Okay, it's probably a drastic comparison I know because what does brain surgery and bass fishing equipment have in common.

Nothing really, but the right preparation of your bass fishing equipment is so vital. Early Spring Large Mouth Bass?

OK, so im not much of a bass fisherman. I normally only fish for walleyes or northern so i dont know much about bass presentations. My school started a bass fishing club and i figured why not join. Well, so far no one has caught anything. We are fishing on Tampier lake, in Orland Park, Illinois. I've tried throwing spinner baits, Texas rigging worms and bouncing them along the bottom. I've tried rattle traps, fat raps, crawdad crank baits, and jigs to no avail. The weather had been extremely weird going from 60's and sunny to snow and 20's 2 days later with an average in the upper 40's. I dont know the temp of the water because i keep forgetting to bring a thermometer when i go. Ohh and we are fishing from the shore. Any suggestions? I know this is a long shot, but with sectionals right around the corner, im exhausting every option i have.

Early spring when the weather is still cool is prime time for catching giant large mouth bass, but you must have the right tools for the task. Here are a few recommendations for this time of year along with fishing tips for each (full disclosure, I work for PRADCO Outdoor Brands who own Lurenet.com)... Good fishing!

Is my rod and reel line tough enough to fish for Striped Bass??

I just bought a new reel, rod, and basic equiptment to go bass fishing, more specifically striped bass. The rod I bought is a Shimano FX Spinning Rod - Length: 7'0", Line Weight: 6-14lbs, Lure Weight: 1/4-5/8oz, Power: Medium, and
Action: Fast -- The reel line I picked up is "Ultra Line:Mustad" and holds 14lb (6.4kg) and spans 330 yards (300m) -- Is this rod and reel line powerful enough to withstand striped bass out in Nova Scotia, Canada??

Your combination is fine however you definatly need to make sure your drag is set well just in case you catch a fish over 15 pounds. You will still be able to reel them in, it just might take awhile. Good luck!
